Brigitte Macron, France’s First Lady, discloses that she postponed marrying Emmanuel Macron for a decade, considering the well-being of her children, who are approximately the same age as her younger partner.

Brigitte Macron, France’s First Lady, shared in a rare interview with Paris Match magazine that she chose to delay marrying Emmanuel Macron for a decade to prevent disrupting her three children’s lives, who are of a similar age to her younger spouse, the French President.

Emmanuel Macron developed romantic feelings for Brigitte Auzière, who was already married at the time, when he was 15 years old. Brigitte, who is 25 years his senior, served as his drama teacher at the Catholic Providence school in Amiens, northern France. Additionally, her daughter Laurence was a classmate of Macron.

Despite Macron’s parents disapproving of his relationship with Brigitte, they sent him to another school in Paris hoping he would move on.

However, Brigitte believed he would eventually find someone his own age in Paris, but that expectation didn’t materialize.

Brigitte gave up her job, but said the ‘only obstacles’ were her children, as she didn’t want to ‘wreck their lives’.

That lasted ten years, the time to put them on the rails. You can imagine what they were hearing. But I didn’t want to miss out on my life,’ she said.

Her son is three years older than Macron and her daughters, now aged 46 and 39, are of similar age to her second husband.

Brigitte Macron mentioned not being certain about her parents’ reaction to her marriage with her former student, Emmanuel, but acknowledged that her siblings occasionally teased her about the rumors surrounding their relationship. Eventually, in 2007, she married Macron, who was a civil servant in his late twenties at that time, following her divorce from her estranged husband, André-Louis Auzière.

The First Lady gave a little more insight into the Macrons’ married life, which she usually remains tight-lipped about apart from mentioning the difficulties in the early years of their relationship were.

Despite already being married for 16 years, Brigitte said her husband still manages to surprise and amaze her with his impressive memory and intelligence.

‘I had many brilliant pupils and none had his capability. I have always admired him,’ she explained.
