A distressed Nigerian graduate voices frustration and symbolically burns their academic certificates as a form of protest or expression of discontent.

Olutimain Alvin, a frustrated graduate of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has burned all his academic certificates, spanning from primary school to university. This drastic action comes after 13 years of graduation without securing a satisfactory job.

In a viral video on social media, Alvin said: “I graduated in 2010, did my NYSC in 2011. Over 13 years, I have not used these certificates to do anything. It is better to even be illiterate than to have useless certificates.

“What is the essence of a certificate when I have to drag jobs with illiterates ever since I graduated”, he asked.

Alvin emphasized that the certificates proved futile even for international travel, causing him sleepless nights as he reflected on 13 years of jobs that rendered his qualifications irrelevant. He advised parents to prioritize skills that enhance productivity, advocating for alternatives beyond traditional white-collar jobs.
